We begin (temporarily) at the interchange between eastbound Interstate 10 and Interstate 405. Here, eastbound Interstate 10 approaches Exit 3, Junction Interstate 405. Interstate 405, the San Diego Freeway, is the first Interstate highway junction along eastbound Interstate 10 as it leaves Santa Monica to enter Los Angeles, the second largest city in the United States. From this point, Interstate 10 continues east along the Santa Monica Freeway into downtown Los Angeles along what is commonly seen as the busiest freeway in the country (with Interstate 90/94, the Dan Ryan Expressway, a close competitor for the "busiest freeway" distinction).
