California 261 connects the cities of Irvine and Santa Ana with California 241, which is known as the Foothills Transportation Corridor and the Eastern Transportation Corridor. There is no direct connection from California 261 to Interstate 5; the tollway is primarily designed to provide access from new residential development in the foothills with job centers in Irvine and Santa Ana.
