California 99 - Madera County (Northbound)

Northbound California 99 - Madera County
	Northbound California 99 at Exit 144, Avenue 7 and Road 33. Madera County uses a grid system to number its county-maintained routes. Avenues run east-west and roads run north-south. Avenue 12 is approximately 12 miles north of the southernmost point of the county (which is located along the Chowchilla Canal southeast of Firebaugh along the San Joaquin River). 	As part of the effort to convert California 99 to freeway standards, one of the improvements will be to close off access at intersections such as this one, which is located just south of the California 152 interchange. As part of a proposed upgrade to this stretch of California 99, this intersection is proposed to be eliminated. A well-known hamburger joint that features a large orange is located at this intersection, and the business may be ruined with the closure of the intersection. Photo taken 08/15/03.

	California 152 is a major, east-west expressway connecting the Central Valley with the Central Coast, with connections to Gilroy and Watsonville via California 152 and Monterey via California 156. 	Northbound California 99 approaching Exit 171, Minturn Road/Le Grand. The town of Le Grand is located in Merced County, several miles north of this interchange along Minturn Road.
