Northbound California 99 at Exit 96, Junction Eastbound California 198. As noted above, this exit leads east to Visalia (the Tulare County Seat), via the California 198 freeway. According to the city of Visalia's official webpage, over 91,500 people reside in Visalia (as of 1/1/2003). Northbound California 99 at Exit 97, Junction Westbound California 198. California 198 leads west to Hanford and Lemoore, and it is a rare east-west freeway between those two cities. However, the sections of California 198 that connect to California 99 in the east and Interstate 5 in the west are not freeway standard. It will be interesting to see if the Hanford-Lemoore freeway would be connected the Visalia freeway in the future. The last Tulare County exit is Exit 111, Mendocino Avenue. This route leads north into Fresno County and the city of Kingsburg. It may be a business loop of California 99, and it provides a shortcut to eastbound California 201 by avoiding parts of western Kingsburg. Photo taken 08/15/03.
